Biogen names new chief information officer

Biogen has announced the appointment of Matt Griffiths as its new senior vice-president and chief information officer, a role that will see him develop the firm's overall strategy for enterprise IT.

Mr Griffiths has been promoted from his previous position as vice-president of pharmaceutical operations and corporate information technology, having joined Biogen from Dell earlier this year.

His responsibilities will include the use of IT to improve infrastructrure, business engagement, and global solution development and support, while also supporting the company's core business and growing pipeline.

He will work closely with groups across Biogen's technology and business solutions units on efforts to accelerate drug discovery and development through insights from real-world data analytics, as well on the use of mobile, wearables and imaging technologies to improve patient care.

Adriana Karaboutis, the company's executive vice-president of technology and business solutions, said: "Matt's technical expertise, background in analytics and business solutions, and his ability to bridge disparate organisations and disciplines will be critical as technology plays an increasingly important role at Biogen."

The firm was recently named as one of the UK's best workplaces in a report from the Great Place to Work Institute, being the highest-ranking medium-sized pharmaceutical company on the list.
