Biogen reports new efficacy data for MS drug Tecfidera

21st April 2015

Biogen has announced new clinical data that offers further evidence of the long-term benefits of its multiple sclerosis (MS) drug Tecfidera.

To be presented at the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) annual meeting, the new dataset includes findings from a post-hoc analysis of several years of integrated results from the phase III DEFINE, CONFIRM and ENDORSE studies.

It has been shown that Tecfidera offers robust efficacy in newly-diagnosed patients who have highly active MS, while significantly reducing relapse and disability progression rates in patients with newly-diagnosed relapsing-remitting MS.

Additional data indicate Tecfidera showed strong and sustained efficacy over five years in relapsing-remitting MS patients who were previously treated with an interferon or glatiramer acetate therapy.

Gilmore O'Neill, vice-president for multiple sclerosis research and development at Biogen, said: "Tecfidera continues to demonstrate consistently strong efficacy and favourable safety results that we believe support its position as the new oral standard of care."

The firm is also sharing the latest findings on products such as Tysabri and Plegridy at AAN 2015.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801784383-ADNFCR
