Biogen reports positive data from Zinbryta multiple sclerosis trial

19th September 2016

Biogen has announced new clinical data demonstrating the benefits of Zinbryta, the multiple sclerosis drug developed in collaboration with AbbVie.

A post-hoc analysis from the pivotal DECIDE study has shown that a significantly greater number of people treated with Zinbryta achieved NEDA (no evidence of disease activity) status compared to those taking an alternative interferon beta-1a therapy.

Additional new interim data from the long-term extension study, EXTEND, further demonstrated the drug's effectiveness in terms of several clinically meaningful measures of disease activity, while also highlighting its long-term safety profile.

These results were presented by Biogen and AbbVie at the recent annual congress of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis in London.

Dr Ralph Kern, senior vice-president for worldwide medical affairs at Biogen, said: "This data continues to reinforce Zinbryta's robust efficacy in reducing multiple sclerosis relapse rates, disability progression and brain lesion development, and helps further define its long-term safety profile."

ZInbryta is approved for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis and is co-promoted by Biogen and AbbVie in the US, with Biogen solely handling sales in the rest of the world, including the EU.
