BioMerieux to partner with AdvanDx for pathogen-identification

23rd May 2007

BioMerieux has signed a new partnership with AdvanDx for the exclusive distribution of a PNA FISH rapid diagnostic test.

The molecular-based test aims to give quick species identification of bacteria and yeast from positive blood cultures in under three hours.

ADvanDX says this will allow professionals to make quicker and more relevant therapy decisions to improve antibiotic management, minimise hospital mortality and to reduce costs related to bloodstream infections.

Thais J Johansen, president and chief executive officer of AdvanDX, commented: "The industry-leading technology behind our PNA FISH tests offers an easy to implement solution for rapid identification of a broad range of bloodstream pathogens.

"We chose bioMerieux to distribute our PNA FISH tests because they share our values to provide cutting-edge, life-saving technology and superior customer service."

BioMerieux states that the success of PNA FISH has been shown in a recent study from the University of Maryland Medical Centre, which showed hospital stays were "significantly" reduced.

The company recently announced a cross-licence and supply agreement and chose NuGEN WT Ovation for assay development.ADNFCR-1050-ID-18157818-ADNFCR
