Biotronik announces UK launch of CardioMessenger Smart

Biotronik has announced the launch of its new CardioMessenger Smart device in the UK and Ireland to aid the monitoring of cardiovascular implantable electronic device (CIED) patients.

CardioMessenger Smart offers a similar look and feel to a smartphone and is designed to keep CIED patients connected to their physicians at all times via Biotronik's Home Monitoring system.

Pacemaker and implanted defibrillator patients who are being tracked via Home Monitoring have less need for face-to-face hospital appointments, as data from their CIED is automatically sent to the clinician's computer. 

CardioMessenger Smart makes this even easier, allowing the heart to be monitored anywhere in the world. If the patient is abroad, they can look up a list of hospitals at their destination where they can go for follow-up care through Biotronik's travel guide.

Carys Jones, an advanced cardiac physiologist from Glangwili Hospital in West Wales, said: "If everything is normal, then the patient has reassurance we are monitoring; if there is an abnormal cardiac event, we can immediately focus on the patients that need attention and tailor therapy when needed."

Home Monitoring has been shown to lighten the workload for cardiac physiologists through fast follow-ups, while also reducing mortality rates in heart failure patients by over 50 percent.
