Biotronik Home Monitoring benefits discussed at 2014 EMB Conference

Biotronik has highlighted some of the positive discussions that took place surrounding its Home Monitoring system at the recent Expert Meeting Berlin (EMB) Conference.

The event in Germany saw experts in cardiology and electrophysiology discuss the critical issues and the latest research in their fields, including data from the groundbreaking IN-TIME study.

According to the study, automatic continuous monitoring with Biotronik Home Monitoring reduces mortality in heart failure patients by more than 50 percent compared to standard care. It was the first randomised, controlled trial worldwide to demonstrate a significant reduction in all-cause mortality in heart failure patients with implant-based remote monitoring.

The study coincides with the most recent European Society of Cardiology guidelines on cardiac pacing and resynchronisation therapy, which now contain recommendations for remote monitoring.

Professor Gerhard Hindricks of the Heart Center at the University of Leipzig said: "IN-TIME shows that remote monitoring is part of a comprehensive approach to treating complex diseases and an effective tool for healthcare providers."

This comes after the firm revealed data from the ECOST study last month, showing how Home Monitoring can significantly reduce the cost of follow-up in patients with implantable defibrillators.
