Biotronik receives CE approval for MRI-compatible CRT-Ds
Biotronik's last two generations of ProMRI cardiac resynchronisation therapy defibrillator (CRT-Ds) systems have received European CE Mark approval.
This will open the door for CRT-D patients equipped with Biotronik devices to receive full-body magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, facilitating the monitoring and treatment of a range of conditions.
Since 2013, the company's CRT-Ds have been approved for MRI scanning with an exclusion zone, but this has now been expanded to include full-body MRI scanning at 1.5 tesla strength.
This strengthens Biotronik's position as the provider of the broadest portfolio of cardiac devices approved for use in the MR environment on the market.
Manuel Ortega, senior vice-president of Biotronik, said: "With CE approval of our last two generations of ProMRI CRT-Ds for full-body scanning, we broaden the options for physicians and patients, enabling optimal treatment."
The company presented its range of CRT-Ds approved for full-body MRI scanning at the 2015 European Society of Cardiology congress, which began in London on August 29th and concludes today (September 2nd).
