Biotronik reports positive data from new trial of Magmaris scaffold

Biotronik has announced positive new findings from BIOSOLVE-II, a study of Magmaris, its bioresorbable magnesium scaffold.

One-year data from the prospective international first-in-human trial has been published in the European Heart Journal, showing the effectiveness of the device, which is the first clinically proven magnesium-based sirolimus eluting scaffold of its kind.

A total of 123 patients with de novo lesions were enrolled for the study. 12-month results from the trial demonstrated no incidence of scaffold thrombosis and a low rate of target lesion failure associated with the device.

The company is planning to supplement the findings from this study with a robust post-market clinical programme, including the BIOSOLVE-IV trial.

Dr Daniel Buehler, president of vascular intervention at Biotronik, said: "BIOSOLVE-II has paved the way for a novel magnesium bioresorbable scaffold which offers outstanding deliverability without leaving an implant behind."

This comes after the firm recently launched a new trial called BIOSTEMI, which aims to assess the effectiveness of its Orsiro stent in treating ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients.
