Biotronik study demonstrates benefits of Pulsar-18 stent

Biotronik has announced new data that demonstrates the effectiveness of its Pulsar-18 stent in treatment of superficial femoral artery disease.

The bare metal self-expanding stent was recently studied in the BIOFLEX PEACE all-comers trial, which evaluated the device's performance among 151 all-comers over a 12-month period.

Interim results indicated that Pulsar-18 is an effective treatment option for superficial femoral artery disease, with a primary patency rate of 75 percent and a freedom from target lesion revascularisation rate of 93.1 percent.

This confirmed the results of previous Pulsar studies and offered further evidence, taken from a real-world setting, that the stent can offer numerous benefits for this patient group.

Dr Alexander Uhl, vice-president of marketing for vascular intervention at Biotronik, said: "This interim data is highly encouraging and we look forward to the full data set from BIOFLEX PEACE in 2017, and eventually the 24-month results."

Pulsar stent has a thin strut design producing a low chronic outward force to help reduce restenosis rates, thereby delivering better outcomes.
