Biotronik study reveals benefits of enhanced pacemaker
Biotronik has published data from a new study that illustrates the potential benefits of pacemaker technology that utilises an enhanced algorithm.
The company has conducted a study called Prevent, which aimed to evaluate the potential effects of using an enhanced atrioventricular search hysteresis (AVSH) with a longer search interval among patients with a class I pacemaker indication.
It was found that the augmented AVSH technology from Biotronik, known as the Intrinsic Rhythm Support algorithm, can offer benefits in reducing unnecessary right ventricular pacing, thus leading to a smaller risk of ventricular dysfunction and mortality.
The system works by utilising a combination of repetitive hysteresis and scan hysteresis, a technique that had never been properly evaluated prior to this.
Marlou Janssen, vice-president of global marketing and sales at Biotronik, said: "Biotronik is investing to become a leader in providing clinical evidence and the publication of the Prevent study is another milestone in realising this commitment to the medical community."
Last week, the company announced that its Selectra left ventricular lead delivery system, which features an innovative new design concept, has been approved in Europe.
