Biotronik study shows benefits of gold-tip catheters

4th October 2010

Biotronik has published data from a new study which illustrates the benefits its gold-tip catheter technology can deliver among atrial flutter patients.

The medical technology firm recently concluded Aurum 8 trial, the largest ever randomised controlled investigation of atrial flutter ablation, in which the performance of gold-tip catheters were compared to platinum-iridium-tip devices.

It was found that only one gold-tip catheter needs to be exchanged for every ten control catheters, as a result of a decrease in the rate of charring and coagulum formation.

According to Biotronik, this means the devices are likely to be safer for patients, while also helping the medical facility to cut costs.

Marlou Janssen, global vice-president of marketing and sales for Biotronik, said: "At Biotronik we deliver clinical excellence by supporting research that explores the industry's most challenging questions."

Last month, the company published study data showing how use of its Home Monitoring technology can lead to earlier detection of symptomatic and asymptomatic heart arrhythmias.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800097037-ADNFCR
