Bird flu has been eliminated in Athelington zone

14th January 2020

Following a confirmed outbreak of low pathogenic avian influenza H5N3, a one-kilometer radius restriction was enforced around a commercial chicken farm in Athelington, mid-Suffolk, on 10 December 2019. From that moment on, thorough investigations have been carried out and recently the Animal and Plant Health Agency have confirmed that the disease has been eliminated within the radius.

Despite no signs of the flu, the public, vets, and farmers have been instructed to remain observant and report of any wild or farmed birds that are found to be dead or ill.
