BMI Healthcare hospital unveils whole body cryotherapy pod

3rd October 2011

BMI Healthcare has announced the introduction of the UK's first whole body medical cryotherapy pod at one of its hospitals in London.

The Garden Hospital has introduced the new device at its physiotherapy department to provide treatment for a wide array of different conditions, including pain relief, decreasing inflammation and improving rehabilitation times.

Specialist cryotherapy provider CryoClinics assisted in the creation of the unit as part of a joint partnership with BMI Healthcare, with this new technology now making its way to the UK after becoming increasingly widespread in Europe.

By cooling the patient's external temperature using the pod, doctors are able to trigger the release of endorphins that can offer an array of beneficial results.

Kim McRae, executive director at BMI The Garden Hospital, said: "In the future I hope this treatment will gain wider acceptance and benefit more people, from elite athletes to elderly people suffering severe arthritis."

In August, BMI Healthcare announced that The Park Hospital in Nottinghamshire has had its intensive care ward redeveloped with an advanced new lighting system that mimics the natural cycle of the day.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800746392-ADNFCR
