Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health announces award winners

Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health has announced the winners of this year’s European Porcine-Circovirus Research Award, which it sponsors.

Dr Lars Erik Larsen from the Danish National Veterinary Institue in Copenhagen, Dr Nicolas Rose, who works with the French Agency for Food Safety in Ploufragan, and Dr Gerard Wellenberg at the Dutch Animal Health Service in Deventer were all presented with the prize recently.

The projects which were honoured were PCV2 and Lawsonia: Interaction and diagnosis, Quantitative evaluation of PCV-2 transmission and a case-control study on the serverity of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) respectively.

Each received 25,000 euros after convincing an independent jury with their outline of innovative research approaches in the field of swine immunology to explore Porcine Cicovirus Disease (PCVD).

Dr Gerald Behrens from Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health and Professor Maurice Prensaert, former head of the Laboratory of Virology of the Ghent University, gave out the honours at the global headquarters of Boehringer Ingelheim in Germany.

The company behind the awards was founded in 1885 and now employs 39,800 employees.
