Boehringer Ingelheim chairman ‘fundamentally shaped company success’

1st July 2008

Christian Boehringer, the chairman of the shareholders’ committee at Boehringer Ingelheim, has hailed the success of chairman of the board of managing directors Dr Allesandro Banchi, as Dr Banchi announced his decision to step down at the end of the year.

Dr Banchi has been with the company and most recently served as chairman of the board with responsibility for marketing and sales.

He will be succeeded by Dr Andreas Barner, currently vice-chairman of the board with responsibility for research, development and medicine, which he will retain in his new role.

Dr Bert Tjeenk Willink will take on the responsibility for marketing and sales.

Additionally, Dr Hans-Jurgen Leuchs, board member with responsibility for operations and animal health will retire at the end of the year, as will Professor Marbod Muff, who has responsibilities for finance and human resources.

Dr Wolfram Carius will take on responsibilities for operations and human resources, while Hubertus von Maumbach will oversee finance and animal health.

Christian Boehringer said: “Dr Banchi has fundamentally shaped Boehringer Ingelheim’s entrepreneurial success as well as decisively driven forward its profitability and internationalisation, especially in the US.”

He added that under the watch of Dr Banchi, the company took important decisions that were successfully implemented to develop novel therapies and medications to benefit people.

Last month, Boehringer Ingelheim announced plans to acquire biotechnology company Actimis Pharmaceuticals.
