Boehringer Ingelheim highlights growth expectations for second half of 2014

13th August 2014

Boehringer Ingelheim has highlighted its expectations for an improved performance in the second half of 2014.

During the first six months of the year, the company generated net sales of around 6.5 billion euros (5.19 billion pounds). This represented a three percent year-on-year decline, with unfavourable currency trends and other one-off costs impacting its bottom line.

According to the firm, several key challenges were overcome during the period, including the sale of certain key assets of Bedford Laboratories and the initiation of price reductions. However, significant investments in future growth were made by the company nevertheless.

More than ten new products will be introduced over the course of the next two years, which will span eight indications. Key regulatory milestones achieved for drugs such as Pradaxa, Giotrif, Striverdi and Jardiance were achieved during the first six months of 2014, while improvements to the organisation's cost structure have also been made.

Professor Dr Andreas Barner, chairman of the board of managing directors at Boehringer Ingelheim, said: "We can now concentrate all our efforts on the development and launch of new medicines and on the expansion of our biopharmaceutical business."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801741726-ADNFCR
