Boehringer Ingelheim posts ‘good’ results for first half of 2007

Boehringer Ingelheim has published its financial figures for the first half of 2007, with the company reporting “good business results” for the period.

During the half, the company saw net sales of 5,407 million euros (3,619 million pounds), a rise of 2.1 per cent on the first half of 2006, while currency-adjusted growth was 7.5 per cent.

This increase was driven by strong performance of key global pharmaceutical products, including Micardis, Mirapex/Sifrol and Spiriva, while the growth rate was slower than that seen last year as a result of increased competition from generics manufacturers.

Dr Alessandro Banchi, chairman of the board of managing directors of Boehringer Ingelheim, said: “Our growth is primarily driven by our innovative drugs which are readily accepted due to their value for patients.”

He added that this growth has enabled the firm to continue on its strategic growth path and see good development of its business, despite unfavourable currency effects and the release of generic forms of Mobic in the US.

In March 2007, Boehringer Ingelheim reported its financial results for 2006, announcing that the firm had outpaced the market for the seventh successive year, with an 11 per cent rise in net sales to 10.6 billion euros.
