Boehringer Ingelheim reports phase III data for diabetes drug

23rd September 2010

Boehringer Ingelheim has expressed satisfaction with new clinical data for linagliptin, its developmental treatment for type 2 diabetes patients.

According to results from a recent phase III trial of the drug, linagliptin has been shown to be a safe and effective add-on therapy for sulphonylurea among patients suffering from insufficient glycaemic control.

In addition, the firm highlighted data from a second phase III study, which showed the drug can deliver improvements in glycaemic control among patients who are unable to benefit from treatment with metformin.

It was also shown that linagliptin's efficacy is relatively unaffected by impairments in the patient's renal functions, an unusual trait among this class of drugs.

Boehringer Ingelheim will move ahead with plans to file for regulatory approval of the therapy in numerous global territories later this year.

Earlier this week, the company published new data from a phase III study of the drug afatinib, showing its potential efficacy against breast cancer.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800078620-ADNFCR
