Boehringer Ingelheim reports positive Ofev data at ATS 2016

20th May 2016

Boehringer Ingelheim has announced new clinical data showing the benefits of its drug Ofev in the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

New analyses presented via 12 IPF-related abstracts at the American Thoracic Society's (ATS) 2016 annual conference have added to the growing body of evidence reinforcing the clinical benefit of Ofev across a broad range of patients.

A new analysis of the Phase III INPULSIS trials has demonstrated Ofev's slowing of disease progression in a composite endpoint involving lung function decline and death, while another study of data from the same trials showed how the drug significantly reduced the risk of acute exacerbations reported as serious adverse events.

Additionally, one-year data from post-marketing surveillance, including real-world clinical data generated from 6,700 patients, further confirmed the safety profile of Ofev seen in studies.

Dr William Mezzanotte, therapy area head for respiratory medicine at Boehringer Ingelheim, said: "We're continually working to advance the understanding of IPF through our clinical trial programme and ongoing research of Ofev in the real-world clinical setting."

Ofev was approved by the European Commission in January 2015, thanks in large part to the positive performance it demonstrated in the INPULSIS trials.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801818809-ADNFCR
