Boots UK raises record-breaking sum for 2016 Children in Need

Boots UK has announced that it was able to raise 1.5 million pounds for the BBC's 2016 Children in Need appeal, the highest amount it has ever contributed.

Staff from the pharmacy chain were able to raise this total through a number of sponsored activities, including cycling, baking, fancy dress, dancing and selling toys of Pudsey, the event's mascot.

The largest Boots-backed fundraising event of 2016 was Jump for Pudsey, an initiative launched in partnership with British Gymnastics with the aim of encouraging families to get more active.

Additionally, the company has been engaging directly in schemes to aid young people in the community, offering them mentoring and work experience opportunities, while sharing knowledge about healthy living.

For three months, Boots has also been working with West of England Care for Supporting Independent Living, one of the charities supported by BBC Children in Need, to help disabled people regain control of their lives.

Elizabeth Fagan, senior vice-president and managing director of Boots, said: "Not only is this the biggest amount that our colleagues and customers have fundraised and donated, but we are working at a local level with BBC Children in Need projects to support them in ways that only Boots can."
