Boots UK to offer rapid COVID-19 testing – with results in 12 minutes.

Boots UK will offer LumiraDx devices for COVID-19 testing, which will return results from swab tests in twelve minutes.

Over the next few weeks, the device, which can efficiently process swab
tests and provide customers with same-day outcomes, will be distributed in selected stores.

The service would be one of the cheapest private tests available on the market for COVID-19, at one hundred and twenty pounds.

For customers who require a test before flying, Boots’ option will not be approved as a pre-flight test because the results will be processed by an in-store machine instead of a licenced laboratory. However, in Boots stores across Birmingham, Manchester, London, Glasgow and Edinburgh, a separate forty-eight-hour test will be launched, which will be available as a pre-flight service, which will also cost one hundred and twenty pounds.

Customers who aren’t displaying symptoms of COVID-19 will be eligible to book an in-store test through Boots.com. Those who believe they have the virus or those with symptoms, however, are kindly asked not to come to the store and remain at home instead.

Boots UK’s Managing Director, Seb James, stated: “Boots has supported the government’s Covid-19 testing programme from the very start and offering this new in-store service is the next step in our efforts to fight against the pandemic. We hope that by offering this testing option in local community stores, Boots can help ease pressure on the NHS and the government by providing additional access to testing and crucial reassurances for people across the UK.”
