Boston Scientific acquires Remon Medical Technologies

Massachusetts-based Boston Scientific has acquired Israeli medical technology company Remon Medical Technologies.

Remon, which specialises in developing miniature implants which allow physicians to assess and treat various medical conditions, was acquired for an undisclosed consideration, according to Haaretz.

However, the Israeli news provider claimed the deal could be worth in excess of $300 million (150 million pounds).

Meanwhile, Boston recently announced that it has acquired a technology for treating symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) from Celsion.

Under the deal, which was approved by Celsion shareholders on June 13th, Boston will take full responsibility for the Prolieve Thermodilatation System, which it has exclusively distributed since 2004.

Commenting on the agreement, Eric Goorno, president of Boston’s urology and gynecology business, said: “This purchase demonstrates Boston Scientific’s continued commitment to improving treatment options for those suffering from urologic conditions, including BPH.”

According to the Massachusetts firm, BHP affects many men over the age of 50 and can have a “significant impact on quality of life”. The Prolieve System is a non-surgical treatment which can be performed in a surgeon’s office using less invasive, micro-wave-based treatments.
