Boston Scientific Announces Acquisition Of nVision Medical Corporation

Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX) today announced that it has acquired nVision Medical Corporation, a privately-held company focused on women’s health. nVision have developed the only device that can collect cells from a woman’s fallopian tubes and be able to offer a platform that can detect an early diagnosis of ovarian cancer.

As one of the fifth leading causes of cancer death among women, ovarian cancer is often asymptomatic until late in the course of the disease. There has been no effective way to biopsy cells within the fallopian tubes and no early screening tests, resulting in woman deciding to remove their ovaries and fallopian tubs to reduce the risk of developing the cancer if there is a family history or high risk of them developing the disease.

Initial research has shown the nVision device effectively collects cells that correlate with positive diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Boston Scientific plan to conduct further research to establish how the cells collected from the fallopian tubes can be used to help in the decision making process for women who more at risk from the disease.
