Boston Scientific receives CE Mark for two new devices

Boston Scientific has been granted European CE Mark approval for a pair of new medical devices.

The Ranger Paclitaxel-Coated PTA Balloon Catheter is a new option for the treatment of peripheral artery disease that delivers an anti-stenotic drug to diseased vascular tissue, while leaving no permanent implant behind.

Facilitating the treatment of both above-the-knee and below-the-knee lesions, the device can reduce drug loss significantly, while optimising both deliverability and absorption of the drug in the targeted tissue.

Jeff Mirviss, president for peripheral interventions at Boston Scientific, said: "This latest innovation in drug and coating technology is another example of our commitment to advancing the care of patients worldwide."

Meanwhile, the company has also received approval for a 25 mm version of its Lotus Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation System, complementing the existing 23 mm and 27 mm variants.

The device has been shown to offer a strong performance in the treatment of severe aortic valve stenosis and will offer clinicians a new size option to match patient anatomy more precisely.
