Boston Scientific wins contract to supply defibrillators
Boston Scientific has won a contract to supply pacemakers and defibrillators to the US department of veterans’ affairs (VA).
The company’s latest technology will be used to fulfil the one-year contract, including the Teligen implantable cardioverter defibrillator and the Altrua pacemaker range.
Patient enrolment numbers at VA Medical Centres have risen by 4.8 million to eight million overall from 2000 to 2008 – and the figure is expected to increase, meaning Boston’s equipment may be used in treatment on many patients with bradycardia arrhythmias and on those at risk of sudden cardiac death.
Fred Colen, president of Boston Scientific Cardiac Rhythm Management, said “substantial improvements” have been made to the medical device manufacturer’s systems over the past two years.
“We are committed to working with physicians at VA Medical Centres across the country to provide our implantable therapy options for their cardiac rhythm management patients,” he added.
On January 29th, Boston Scientific will be webcasting a conference call on its most recent financial results on its website.
