Brian Pinker has become the first person to receive the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine

Brian Pinker, a dialysis patient, aged 82, has become the first person to receive the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. Mr Pinker, a retired maintenance manager, received the jab from nurse Sam Foster at Oxford’s Churchill Hospital at 7:30 GMT.

The government have highlighted that over 500,000 doses of the vaccine are ready for use. Furthermore, six hospital trusts in London, Sussex, Oxford, Warwickshire and Lancashire are administering the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab on Monday.

On Sunday more than half a million new confirmed COVID cases were recorded in the UK for the 6th consecutive day, thus urging calls for another national lockdown in England.

Mr Pinker stated: “The nurses, doctors and staff today have all been brilliant and I can now really look forward to celebrating my forty-eighth wedding anniversary with my wife Shirley later this year.”
