Bristol-Myers Squibb announces new collaborations

14th March 2007

Bristol-Myers Squibb has announced two new collaboration agreements as part of its efforts to expand its research and development capabilities in India, a move the company describes as key to its global strategy of attaining cost-effective and sustainable growth.

In the first agreement, the firm is extending the scope of its existing partnership with Biocon for the development of integrated resources in biology, drug metabolism, medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical development, including the establishment of a research site in Bangalore.

The second agreement expands the company’s relationship with Accenture, which will now encompass support for clinical data and document management, pharmacovigilance and scientific writing functions, alongside support and maintenance for research and development information systems.

Elliot Sigal, executive vice president at Bristol-Myers Squibb, said: “Working with Biocon and Accenture, two well-respected and valued partners, Bristol-Myers Squibb will continue to access world-class talent to deliver and grow our robust product pipeline.”

He added that these deals would enable the company to experience growth while retaining its place in the pharmaceuticals market with regards to innovation and productivity.

Earlier this month, Bristol-Myers Squibb announced a quarterly dividend of $0.28 (0.15 pounds) per share on the common stock of the firm to be paid at the start of May 2007.
