Bristol-Myers Squibb provides donations for European cancer nursing

Bristol-Myers Squibb will be providing five two-year grants to help advance European cancer nursing skills through the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation.

The grants, which total nearly $750,000 (465,200 pounds), will be provided to organisations in the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania and Russia, as part of the foundation's Bridging Cancer Care initiative.

Recipients of the grants include Hospices of Hope, the Russian Nurses Association, Hospice Casa Sperantei and the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care, with funded projects focusing on areas such as palliative care, disease awareness and smoking cessation.

John Damonti, president of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, said: "By building trusting relationships with patients, other healthcare providers and supportive services in the community, nurses can help ensure cancer patients receive the comprehensive and compassionate care they need and deserve."

Last month, the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation allocated $1.6 million in funding to help four Asian healthcare institutions tackle type 2 diabetes in India.
