Britons ‘favour natural smiles over cosmetic enhancements’

People in the UK are largely better disposed to natural smiles than they are to signs of cosmetic dental enhancements.

This is according to a new survey from the British Dental Health Foundation, which indicated that 49 per cent of Britons favour a natural-looking smile when assessing the looks of famous public figures.

By comparison, 20 per cent said they preferred a straightened smile and 18 percent picked out whitened teeth as their favourite look.

Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, said: "The growing clamour for cosmetic work may be a result of the way celebrities present themselves, but we must not forget the basics of good oral hygiene."

The survey was released to coincide with National Smile Month, which commenced on May 18th and will come to an end on June 18th.

It aims to promote the basic building blocks of good oral hygiene, including brushing with a fluoride toothpaste, cutting down on sugary food and drinks, and paying regular visits to the dentist.
