The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has issued advice to pet owners across the UK following the news that Halifax and Lloyds TSB have pulled out of the pet insurance sector, leaving many individuals with uninsured pets.
Owners affected by the change have been encouraged to get in touch with their vet to discuss existing treatment options, future expenses and other insurance deals they could look into.
Carl Padgett, president of the BVA, noted that this is a huge blow to thousands of pet owners, as they have been left without cover through no fault of their own.
He said:"Rather than blaming veterinary practices for increasing the levels of treatment available, these insurance companies should do everything they can to ensure their policyholders are not left high and dry."
This latest announcement follows the publication of a new guide by the BVA in regard to proper waste handling practices in the animal health sector.
It outlines a quick reference guide for the disposal of hazardous waste and is complemented by new online information.
