Calf scour inoculation gets packaging upgrade

Bovilis Rotavec Corona is a single-shot injectable vaccination for pregnant cows and young female cattle that have not yet calved. The inoculation increased antibodies that defend against Rotavirus and Escherichia coli F5 (both big causes of diarrhoea in calves), as well as coronavirus.

The container for Merck Sharp & Dohme’s (MSD’s) Bovilis Rotavec Corona vaccine is changing from glass to polyethylene terephthalate. This is because the latter is more hardwearing and environmentally friendly- using 7x less material.

Bovilis Rotavec Corona is expanding their dose pack portfolio with packs of 50, 20 and 5 soon to be accessible with the new vial.

A member of MSD Animal Health, Rob Simpson, said “Alongside the recent product license change allowing Bovilis Rotavec Corona to be administered more flexibly for up to 28 days after first opening – which is already helping to reduce unnecessary wastage of the vaccine on farm – the new packaging means that both vets and farmers will also find the vaccine more convenient to use. From a safety point of view, PET does not break or fracture – and requires nearly seven times less material (by volume/weight) compared with glass – which means lower carbon dioxide emissions and reduced transportation costs.”
