Healthcare products firm Cardinal Health has announced the appointment of Michael C Kaufmann as the president of its Healthcare Supply Chain Services Medical Segment.

The division is worth $7 billion (3.6 billion pounds) and claims to be a leading global distributor of surgical kits, which are sold to hospital and health centres.

Mr Kaufmann will be responsible for business operations dealing in the distribution of medical, surgical and laboratory products from almost 3,000 manufacturers. Products will be supplied to healthcare providers in the US and Canada and he will report to Mark W Parrish, chief executive of the division.

“At each point in Mike’s career with Cardinal Health, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to our customers, while developing the employees on his team and maintaining a disciplined focus on financial results,” Mr Parrish said.

“Mike’s depth of healthcare experience and his proven leadership skills will serve us well as we grow this important part of Cardinal Health’s business,” he added.

Earlier this month, Cardinal Health announced it had gained a consent decree from the US Food and Drug Administration on its Alaris infusion pumps.
