CareFusion announces takeover of Surgical Site Solutions

CareFusion has announced the acquisition of Surgical Site Solutions, a medical technology developer with which it has enjoyed a successful collaborative relationship.

The company is known for creating the ClipVac pre-surgical hair removal system, an attachment to the CareFusion Surgical Clippers that works by vacuum-capturing hair clippings at the source.

CareFusion collaborated with Surgical Site Solutions to develop the device, which saves time by capturing 98.5 percent of hair and airborne contaminants at the source of growth, reducing the need for any secondary clean-up processes.

Testing data has supported vacuum technology as a safe, highly-effective and efficient alternative when hair removal is carried out in the surgical or ancillary setting.

Jan Creidenberg, vice-president and general manager of infection prevention at CareFusion, said: "Bringing this proprietary technology into the CareFusion surgical clipper portfolio fits our strategy to help customers improve efficiency and patient safety in the clinical setting."

This year is set to be a transformative period for CareFusion, which will soon be acquired by BD under the terms of a deal agreed last year.
