Cephalon becoming “a premier biotech company”

Cephalon continues to develop into “a premier biotech company”, its chairman and chief executive has said.

Frank Baldino made his comments as the firm posted its financial results for the second quarter of 2009, which included sales of $539 million (318 million pounds).

This represents an 11 per cent rise in comparison to the sales of $485 million for the second three months of 2008.

In addition, it exceeds the firm’s sales guidance of $515 million to $535 million.

Adjusted net income for the second three-month period was $110.7 million, an increase of 31 per cent over the corresponding period in 2008.

Mr Baldino said: “With our recent business development activities and our fourth product launch in four years, we continue to build Cephalon into a premier biotech company.”

In recent days, the company announced that Craig Phillips, who joined Cephalon in 2007, has been appointed as vice-president and general manager of the firm’s oncology business unit.
