Ceva Animal Health’s Cardalis app now available for Android

Ceva Animal Health has announced that its popular Cardalis mobile app is now available for Android phones.

The application allows pet owners to assess and record their dog's resting respiratory rate as a means of helping with both the early detection and monitoring of heart failure. It also offers a medication reminder tool to ensure compliance with long-term therapy.

Normal respiratory rate at rest varies between dogs but is usually less than 30 breaths per minute. If this increases to over 40 breaths per minute among dogs with mitral valve disease, it may be a sign that heart failure has developed.

The app is free to download via the App Store on iOS devices and the Google Play store on Android systems.

Ceva product manager Fraser Broadfoot said: "The response to the iPhone app has been excellent, with over 90,000 sessions recorded so far. By now being available on Android phones, even more clients will be able to benefit from this valuable tool."

This comes after the firm recently published clinical data underlining the benefits of spironolactone – one of the active ingredients in the Cardalis drug – for the management of heart failure in dogs.
