Ceva’s acquisition of key Merial assets approved by European Commission
Ceva Animal Health has announced that its planned acquisition of a number of assets from Merial has been ratified by the European Commission.
The EU regulatory body has signed off on the deal, which will see Boehringer Ingelheim transfer nine products – as well as associated intellectual property rights, manufacturing processes and research and development activity – to Ceva.
This deal is taking place to facilitate Boehringer Ingelheim's acquisition of the Merial business as part of an asset swap agreement with Sanofi, the current owner of the Merial brand.
Under the terms of the agreement, Ceva will take ownership of the pig vaccines Circovac, Progressis, Parvovax and Parvoruvax, providing the company with a significant share of the swine biology market.
It will also acquire the bovine vaccine Mucosiffa and four nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory therapies: Equioxx, Genixine, Ketofen one percent and Ketofen ten percent.
Dr Marc Prikazsky, president and chief executive officer of Ceva, said: "I am proud that the European Commission has estimated that Ceva has the industrial and commercial skills to transfer and develop these ranges and accelerate development of both the biology and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory products."
