Checkpoint Surgical launches Checkpoint Edge Nerve Cutting Kit

Checkpoint Surgical, a US-based medical equipment manufacturer, has extended its intraoperative nerve care portfolio with the new addition, Checkpoint Edge Nerve Cutting Kit.

Designed to provide the surgeon with control of transection, tension and placement, Checkpoint Edge enables consistent nerve tissue preparation for aligned coaptation.

Traditional nerve cutting methods may crush and flatten the nerve tissue, according to the company, which can alter nerve ends and make them tough to align during coaptation.

Checkpoint has claimed that the Edge Nerve Cutting Kit will employ circumferential constraint to preserve the nerve’s normal shape during transection.

The company has said that the device additionally prevents the nerve from flattening, sliding and deforming and aids in maintaining the tissue integrity and fascicular group alignment.

The surgeons would require, in non-circumferential procedures, an extra set of hands to hold and tension the nerve while executing the transection. However, with an advanced cutting head design, the Checkpoint Edge is said to facilitate a single-handed, secure grasp to hold and tension the nerve segment.

The company has introduced its new edge nerve-cutting kit as the initial contribution to its portfolio of nerve-specific instruments, with strategies to additionally expand it in the future.
