Clovis applies for EU expansion for use of Rubraca

7th June 2018

In May, Rubraca became the first PARP inhibitor licensed in the EU as a monotherapy treatment for women with recurrent BRCA mutant ovarian cancer, who are unable to tolerate any more platinum based chemotherapy than the two or more lines they have already been treated with. Now Clovis Oncology wants to increase its scope in the EU to include maintenance treatment of certain adults with recurrent epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer, targeting patients who are in complete or partial response to platinum based chemotherapy.
Rubraca (rucaparib) is an inhibitor of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) enzymes that prevent damaged DNA in cancer cells from repairing, causing them to die. The Phase III ARIEL3 clinical trial extended progression-free survival (PFS) versus placebo in all patients treated, regardless of BRCA status.
