Coca-Cola announces environmental targets

3rd November 2008

Coca-Cola has announced new targets for the reduction of carbon emissions and the improvement of water efficiency.

In partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the company’s plans include promotion of sustainable agricultural practices and to help protect freshwater basins.

According to Coca-Cola’s president and chief executive Muhtar Kent, the company’s "sustainability as a business demands a relentless focus on efficiency in our use of natural resources".

"These performance targets are one way we are engaging to improve our management of water and energy," he said.

Some 50 billion litres of water will be saved in 2012 under the scheme, which will see water efficiency improve by 20 per cent compared to 2004. To achieve this, WWF has worked with Coca-Cola to develop a Water Efficiency Toolkit to be used in bottling plants.

Furthermore, two million tons of CO2 will be prevented in manufacturing operations in 2016 compared to 2004.

People in science sales jobs may also be interested in the company’s brands, which include Schweppes and Five Alive.
