Colgate-Palmolive pledges full traceability of palm oil supply by 2015

Colgate-Palmolive has pledged that by 2015, it will be able to trace all palm oil supplies back to the plantation.

The commitment is one of many outlined in the company's new Policy on No Deforestation, which outlines plans to responsibly source all commodities that come from forests.

In addition to palm oil and derivatives, these include pulp and paper, soy and soy oil, and beef tallow.

Colgate-Palmolive describes the policy as "an integral part of the company's strategy to combat climate change and biodiversity loss".

The document was developed in consultation with key stakeholders such as Greenpeace.

"Our values of Caring, Global Teamwork and Continuous Improvement are the foundation of our sustainability commitments," commented chairman, president and chief executive Ian Cook. "This policy reflects our values and our commitment to grow the business ethically and responsibly."

Colgate-Palmolive is a member of the Consumer Goods Forum, which has pledged to achieve zero net deforestation by 2020.
