Coloplast details three-year restructuring strategy

6th November 2006

Coloplast, the Denmark-based medical device company, has detailed an updated strategy for its global manufacturing operations, involving the closure of plants.

The company states that no more production is take place from the Lancing plant in West Sussex in 2007, bringing an end to the company’s UK manufacturing operations.

However, a new factory will be established in eastern Hungary, as well as one in China, as Coloplast’s working population in Denmark will be cut in half in favour of increasing the number of jobs in non-Danish territories.

Sten Scheibye, president and chief executive officer of Coloplast, remarked: “Coloplast has ambitious long-term objectives for value creation and market leadership while faced with possible negative effects from health-care reforms.”

“We must ensure maximum efficiency in Coloplast’s manufacturing and supply chain functions in order for us to strengthen our global market position and live up to the demands of our customers,” he added.

Last month, the company launched a new ostomy platform for people living with a stoma, entitled SenSura.

The product uses double-layer adhesives and achieved a high level of patient satisfaction in trials.
