ConvaTec presented with MediWales innovation award

ConvaTec has been awarded an innovation accolade by MediWales for its Aquacel Surgical and Aquacel Ag Surgical cover dressing products.

The life sciences forum for Wales has presented the 2011 innovation award to the medical technology firm thanks to the quality of its design work on the products, as well as the positive impact they can have on patient outcomes.

Designed for the use in post-operative care for surgical incisions, the dressings utilise ConvaTec's Hydrofiber and skin-friendly hydrocolloid technology to create a waterproof viral and bacterial barrier.

The products have been proven in clinical studies to offer benefits in terms of preventing superficial surgical site infection, skin blistering and delayed discharge, compared to non-woven post-operative surgical cover dressing regimens.

Jorgen Hansen, senior vice-president for global marketing, business development and innovation at ConvaTec, said: "It is our mission at ConvaTec to develop innovative products that make a difference in people's lives."

Earlier this year, the company supported its product offering with the launch of a new iPhone app, providing clinicians with detailed information on its full range.
