Cook launches new endobronchial blocker

Cook has this week announced the release of the latest version of its Cook Arndt Endobronchial Blocker. For more accurate placement of the blocker to reduce the risk of trauma during one-lung thoracic procedures, the blocker exhibits a replaceable snare.

Using a paediatric bronchoscope, the blocker is positioned coaxially through a standard endotracheal tube.

Bruce Gingles, global leader of Cook Critical Care, said the blocker provided doctors with an “advanced and effective alternative” to lung separation procedures as a treatment for patients with difficult airways.

“This new, enhanced feature ultimately allows physicians to achieve even greater precision with the blocker during complex thoracic procedures.”

The Arndt’s low-pressure and high-volume balloon forms robust surface-area contact with the inner bronchial wall, while the blocker eradicates potential airway loss using its single-lumen endotracheal tube.

Cook adds that the blocker can also be used in the rapid and simple inspection of the anatomy after surgery.

Earlier this month, the company announced the launch of its airway exchange catheter that uses a soft tip for reducing the risk of tracheal trauma when used in an endotracheal tube exchange.

Cook reported that this product was a further device for the provision of ventilation and secure airway control to enhance patient care.
