Cook launches umbilical hernia graft

Cook Medical has confirmed the launch of its Surgisis Biodesign Umbilical Hernia Graft which is designed to fit the specific anatomy of a patient.

The Surgisis Biodesign device incorporates the resistance to infection of a biologic graft while still remaining good value and easy to use, according to the medical company.

In particular, the design provides patients with a tailored treatment which helps create living tissue and restore the natural form of the body – bringing a quick recovery period following surgery.

The graft also contains a unique hole pattern which gives surgeons additional guidance for suture placement.

Andy Cron, vice-president of Cook Medical’s surgery business, described the Surgisis Biodesign product as demonstrating the company’s dedication to “medical innovation”.

“The Surgisis Biodesign Umbilical Hernia Graft addresses the individual and unique needs of each patient and provides each patient with a safe, effective and lasting repair to a common and painful condition,” he indicated.

Umbilical hernias occur when part of the intestine perforates through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles at the navel.

Earlier this month, Cook Incorporated, a Cook Medical company, announced the appointment of Dave Volz to the position of vice-president of manufacturing operations.
