Cook Medical biopsy needle shows efficacy in new trial
Cook Medical has highlighted data from a new European study that shows the potential benefits of its 19-gauge EchoTip ProCore High Definition Ultrasound Biopsy Needle.
The device was utilised in a recent multicentre trial to evaluate its potential benefits in diagnosing cancers of the gastrointestinal tract and surrounding tissue.
When used in conjunction with an endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) scope, the histology needle was shown to aid pathologists in diagnosing multiple cancer types via biopsies of lesions with a high degree of accuracy.
In a report on the study published in the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy medical journal, lead investigator Dr Julio Iglesias-Garcia said the EchoTip ProCore unit "improves what is already an incredibly valuable diagnostic tool".
Barry Slowey, global business unit leader for Cook Medical's endoscopy division, said: "We're proud to … further aid physicians in the early diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders."
Last month, the company published data from a study showing the benefits of multiband mucosectomy devices such as its own Duette kit in treating oesophageal lesions.
