Cook Medical launches new Duraplasty Graft

Cook Medical has launched the Duraplasty Graft – a new treatment option for patients requiring dura mater repair after experiencing leaks of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) at the base of the skull.

The graft, which is the latest addition to the company's Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) clinical division's Biodesign portfolio, is suitable for use following surgical procedures at the skull base, such as tumour resection.

Furthermore, patients who exhibit CSF leaks as a result of trauma or sinus surgery are also potential candidates for the graft, which comprises a dura substitute derived from natural material.

According to Cook Medical, the Duraplasty Graft is easy to handle and does not swell when hydrated or fold onto itself, providing a strong seal at the base of the skull without requiring sutures.

By using Biodesign products, physicians also eliminate the need to harvest tissue from other parts of the body in order to carry out grafts.
