Cook Medical reveals new IVC filter placement system

Cook Medical has unveiled a new version of its NavAlign delivery system for the placement of inferior vena cava (IVC) filters.

The new device is a femoral delivery system which incorporates a haemostasis valve to minimise vessel trauma and blood loss when placing IVC filters, a technique used to prevent fatal pulmonary emboli.

It also comes equipped with a multipurpose dilator, radiopaque sizing marker bands and flushing sideports to make it easier for clinicians using image guidance to place the filters.

This comes as a complement to the existing jugular access NavAlign system and is part of Cook Medical’s Venous Program, a range centred on the treatment of venous ailments.

Rob Lyles, vice-president and global leader of the peripheral intervention division at Cook Medical, said: “Chronic venous disease affects up to one-third of the population of all developed countries, so it is vital to provide dedicated treatment options addressing this growing patient population.”

Earlier this month, the medical company launched the Hercules 3 Stage oesophageal balloon, a device designed to treat gastrointestinal strictures.
