Cook reports record sales thanks to fistula repair device

Cook Surgical has announced record sales for the first half of 2006, thanks partly to the “rapid adoption” of its Surgisis anal fistula repair plug (AFP).

Sales of the device increased by almost half during the first two quarters of the year, with US physicians treating more than 550 fistula patients alone every month.

Cook explained that its Surgisis AFP product provides an effective and minimally-invasive manner of repairing painful anal fistulas.

Andy Cron, vice president of Cook Surgical, explained: “We attribute the success of our Surgisis AFP plug to its breakthrough design and high success rates in treating some of the most prevalent and painful inflammatory bowel diseases that until now required repeated open surgical procedures.”

He concluded that the “only device of its kind” was further proof to Cook’s commitment in meeting the clinical needs of all patients.

The company also highlighted the testimony of several fistula experts and the high success rate of the treatment.

Cook said it expects sales of the Surgisis AFP to continue growing.
