Covidien and Philips combine their technology

Covidien has stated its partnership with Philips will give hospitals further access to advanced technology.

The former’s Nellcor OxiMax oximetry system has been integrated into the latter’s IntelliVue and M-Series patient monitors.

Further flexibility will now be available to medical professionals as result and the devices are expected to be used in departments such as intensive care, anaesthesia and emergency.

Doctors will be able to use the SoftCare non-adhesive sensor line for those who have sensitive skin ? such as newborns ? and if a patient with poor perfusion is being treated, there is the option of the Max-Fast.

General manager and vice-president of Covidien’s patient monitoring division Chris Lowery noted medical professionals are under pressure to improve outcomes, while also decreasing costs.

“This collaboration ? is consistent with ? [the company’s] mission to provide products that help clinicians deliver safe and efficacious patient care, while simultaneously maximising hospital efficiency,” he asserted.

Last month, the healthcare product provider discussed the benefits of its OxiNet III remote respiratory monitoring.

It said the system had been implemented in hundreds of hospitals and was being used for some 10,000 patients.
