Covidien launches Pipeline Flex embolisation device in Europe

Covidien has announced the European launch of the new Pipeline Flex embolisation device, a next-generation flow diversion device that received CE Mark approval earlier this year.

The minimally-invasive flow diversion device is intended for the treatment of unruptured brain aneurysms and has been designed specifically to achieve more accurate, controlled placements.

Featuring a braided cylindrical mesh tube that is implanted across the base or neck of the aneurysm, it functions by diverting blood flow away from the affected area, reconstructing the diseased section of the parent vessel.

It is repositionable and designed for improved accuracy and controlled placement. Its other features include an instant braid release system that makes it even easier to place than ever.

Brett Wall, president for Covidien's neurovascular division, said: "Covidien is dedicated to seeking customer feedback and advancing product design to meet their needs."

Earlier this month, it was announced that the company is to be acquired by Medtronic in a deal worth around $42.9 billion (25.27 billion pounds).
